Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Center, Ahmedabad and C.H. Mohammed Koya Library, University of Calicut, Kerala is Jointly Organizing a 5 day National Workshop on “Design and Development of Digital Libraries using DSpace ” during January 3 – 7, 2011.
Aims and Objectives of the Workshop
This workshop is intended to equip participants with skills for developing their own digital libraries/institutional repositories. There will be lectures as well as intensive hands-on training sessions by experts in the field. Thus it will provide both theoretical base and practical skill to the participants.
Objectives of the workshop are as follows
· To provide background knowledge of the digital library and its related concepts
· Introduce the digital libraries projects done world wide
· General introduction to Linux and Digital Library software with detailed study on DSpace
· To provide hands-on experience in using DSpace software
· To make the participant able to start a Digital Library/Institution Repository using DSpace
Areas Covered
The following areas will be coverend in the workshop and hands on practical training will be given in these areas:
· Intuitional Repositories and Digital Libraries
· Linux and Basic Commands
· Metadata and Metadata Standards for Interoperability in IR
· DSpace Installation & Configuration
· DSpace Administration & Customization
· DSpace Workflow & Submissions
· OAI-PMH and UNICODE
· Backup, Export and Import in DSpace
· IPR and Security aspects of IR
Target Participants
Approximately 30 selected library and information science professionals, academicians, IT professionals, Research Scholars and Students will be admitted on a first come first serve basis.
Venue
The Workshop will be conducted at the University of Calicut, Kerala
Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided in the University Guest House and other available facilities on a payment basis.
Workshop Fee
Rs.1500/-has to be paid by the participant as workshop fee in the form of a DD in of the Organizing Secretary, National Workshop on DSpace payable at Calicut University.
